He yelped as he ducked out of the
way of another arrow, mere inches above his head as Yazel scrambled out of the
way, she was closing him down quickly each shot getting close he ducked behind
another tree and crouched panting. As he peered round the tree he noticed she
had gone a soft sigh of relief, he got one short moment of respite before he hear
the all too familiar creak of bow string.
“This one won’t miss,” She grinned.
“I’m not sure I like been used
for target practice Miss Aerian,” He barked back as she relaxed the bow and then
offered her hand to him.
Aerian locked her bow back to her
back and smiled slapping him firmly on the back.
“I’d apologise but I’m pretty
sure you know I’d be almost lying,” She shrugged softly “And besides how am I
supposed to be any use if I can hit a moving target?”
They made their way through the
North Shroud, Aerian had become quite fond of this area, lots of trees and
plenty of areas to check on your skills, as well as the Ixali logging camp
which she had spent more than a few hours picking her way through, by enlarge
the Ixali had learnt to leave her alone, she had also made friends with the
Ehcatl and off link of the Ixali who were far less gloom and doom.
“You have made your delivery this
morning Miss Aerian?” He asked her as they made their way back to his camp.
“Yea, all done for the week, will
be headed back to Fallguard once I take you back,” She replied as they ducked
through the trees and up the path that lead to the Ehcatl encampment “Thank you
again Yazel,”
“Hmm somehow I sense you are been
ironic or at least insincere but I am glad I could aid in some small way” He
shrugged, at least she took the motion for a shrug.
“Live bait is always more fun,”
She grinned.
“I fear should your aim ever be
off,” He sighed softly.
“You’re safe, it won’t,” He nodded
then turned and headed in through the gate, Aerian only ventured in when she
needed to they were far too enthusiastic in their goals for her liking and so
she dealt with Yazel usually at the gate.
She caught herself yawning and
with a glance to the sky noted it would be getting dark soon, a moment later
and she was headed back down the path and toward the Inn of Fallguard Float, she
had spent the last couple of weks working with the Order of the Twin Adders and
finally earning her place had been aside to Fallguard Float, while not
everything she did was agreed with she had helped stem the slaughter of the
Ixali, the first step to this was protecting the Ehcatl whom she had learnt
we’re so hell bent on destroying them as the rest of the Ixali, and as for
those they had learnt she rarely misses with a bow it had worked out quite
well.
It didn’t take long for the sun
to sink beneath the horizon which made the forests of North Shroud ever more
dangerous, of course it didn’t take as long for her to find her way back to
Fallguard either.
“Welcome back Aerian, I hope yer
travels were a success,” The man a rather surely looking fellow stood at the
gate decked in the Wood Wailer greens, he was Godwin the gate keeper of
Fallguard.
“Not so bad, you know me,” Aerian
smiled back softly,
“Indeed we do Aerian, its good
having you around these parts,” He replied and opened the gate for her
“I like it here, reminds me of
home” She shrugged and made her way in, as always the float was busy with the
hustle and bustle of travellers and adventurers alike, while she technically
fell into the adventurer category she was by assignment an Adder a duty she
upheld firmly.
As was her ritual she made her
way to the Bobbing Cork the floats Tavern and Inn, it was here she spent large
parts of her evening, and it was here she was least comfortable the problem with
the Cork was there were far too many people.
“Evening Aerian,” Waved a young
woman, she was a healer and one could argue she was her best friend, or at
least one of few she actually got along with, Aerian smiled and slid into a
seat beside her
“Evening Yhom, how’s your day
been?” She replied as the barkeep served up her regular drink, not that she
knew what it actually was.
“Quiet,” Yhom replied with a smile
“I have been looking into your plight and it seems; you are correct,”
“I’m here by mistake?” Aerian
laughed softly.
“No, not that, but you said your
world inhabits the space between all realms correct?” Yhom replied slowly.
“So Dad says, but there are
infinite realms, infinite dimensions, we exists everywhere and nowhere, that
spiel gets kind old and hard to believe once you’ve heard it a few hundred
times, Dad says we are the keepers of balance so we can cross as and when
needed,” Aerian replied softly before taking a sip of the warm fruity liquid.
“Yes, but with us hurtling toward who knows what it seems you
are needed, perhaps in our need to find a hero we reached out and somehow
tapped into your real, perhaps Hydaelyn herself chose to bring you here to aid
us,” Yhom mused as she looked to the door, “It cannot be coincidence you arrive
when perhaps we need you the most,”
“You have too much faith in me Yhom, could be a misfire with
my spells for all I know, and Hydaelyn has a strange sense of humour turning me
into a cat,” Aerian grinned softly.
“You said yourself you are a half breed in your realm,
perhaps that’s the translation here?” Yhom replied quickly.
“I don’t know, but this form has it’s advantages, now I’m
going to go to bed before the more surly crowd arrive and I’m forced to hurt
one of them again,” Aerian grinned.
“I sometime wonder if you just like hurting people, or are
purposely trying to avoid a relationship with men,” Yhom sighed in reply looking
to her.
Aerian eyed her for a moment as she then looked back out the
door, memories hitting her quite firmly in the gut.
“I’ve seen the damage that road leads to, I’m a product of
it after all, its safer for me if I remain alone,” Aerian shrugged softly.
“I’m sure that isn’t true,” Yhom replied as she watched
Aerian walk away toward the back of the Inn
She finally made her way into her room, as she sank onto the
bed with a thump and kicked off her boots.
“What a,” The moment interrupted by a rap on the door.
“I have a message for a Miss Aerian Elcarus,” Called a voice
through the door.
“Oh shove it under the door and go away,” Aerian snapped
back, she waited and sure enough the envelope was pushed under the door, the
sigil upon it she didn’t recognise of hand but moved to collect it anyway. She
picked it up turning it over in her hand a moment before finally opening it.
For the Attention of

Minfillia
She sighed as she put the note on the dresser and climbed
into bed.
“Time to sleep, seems I have a long journey ahead of me
tomorrow, guess I’ll be riding a damn Chocobo after all,”
